Residential Aid Discount Program
At Pepco, we want to help our customĀers who are having difficulty paying their electric bills. That’s why we designed our Residential Aid Discount (RAD) program to help qualified District of Columbia customĀers.
Pepco’s Average Payment Plan is an alternative payment plan that allows you to pay your electric bill in equal monthly installments even though your actual electric usage fluctuates from month to month.
Residential Aid Discount (RAD)
At Pepco, we want to help our customers who are having difficulty paying their electric bills. That’s why we designed our Residential Aid Discount (RAD) program to help qualified District of Columbia customers. The following questions and answers about RAD should help you determine whether or not this program can help you or someone you know. If you have further questions, call Pepco at (202) 833-7500.
What is RAD? Pepco’s RAD program provides eligible customers without all-electric heating a 32 percent discount on the first 400 kilowatt-hours used in the winter months and a 63 percent discount on the first 400 kilowatt-hours used in the summer months. Eligible RAD customers with all-electric heating will receive a 51 percent discount on the first 700 kilowatt-hours used in the winter months and a 38 percent discount on the first 700 kilowatt-hours used in the summer months. These discount rates were proposed by Pepco and approved by the District of Columbia Public Service Commission.
Who is eligible for RAD?
District of Columbia customers certified by the D.C. Energy Office are eligible for RAD. Your household income must meet current income guidelines.
Do I have to be receiving energy assistance to receive Pepco’s RAD?
No. Pepco customers do not have to receive energy assistance to be eligible for RAD.
Is RAD a one-time discount?
No. Pepco gives a monthly discount to the certified RAD customer for a period of 12 months.
What if I still need RAD after 12 months?
Pepco customers must reapply for RAD certification each year.
What do I need in order to apply for RAD?
You need your latest Pepco bill and proof of income for each household member 18 years or older. To show proof of income, you need one of the following:
- a letter from your employer
- a W-2 form
- a paycheck stub
- an unemployment compensation letter
- an award letter
- or any other formal verification.
How do I apply?
To apply by mail, call Pepco at (202) 833-7500 and an application will be sent to you. You also may apply in person at Pepco’s Customer Service Centers Monday through Friday at the following locations:
