Filing a Claim with Pepco

In the event that you have sustained a loss that you feel is the responsibility of Pepco, you may file a claim by calling 202-872-2452 and speaking with one of our claims assistants between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Please note that filing a claim is not a guarantee of payment. Upon our receipt of the claim, your claim will be assigned to a member of our Claims Department, who will investigate your claim and determine if there is any liability on the part of Pepco. When our investigation has been completed, you will be contacted and advised as to our position on your claim.

Also, please be aware that our company, like all other utilities, cannot guarantee continuous uninterrupted service. This is outlined in our tariff which is filed with and approved by the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland. Therefore, Pepco will not be liable for damages caused by certain occurrences that are beyond the control of the company. For example, some common causes of claims for which Pepco does not pay are:

  • Acts of God (ex. ice, wind, lightning, hurricanes) and animal contacts (ex. squirrels, birds)
  • Equipment failure
  • Damage to Pepco equipment by others
  • Accidents involving Utility Poles

If your damages or losses have occurred as a result of other reasons, please feel free to contact our claims department, as noted above, to file a claim.
