  • District of Columbia Net Energy Metering and Small Generator Interconnections

  • We support renewable energy and partner with our customers to ensure safe and reliable interconnection of renewable energy into the electric grid.

Title 15 of the D.C. Municipal Regulations (DCMR) defines the interconnection and net energy metering regulations and application processes Pepco follows. Small generator technologies that qualify for interconnection with our system include solar (photovoltaic or “PV”), wind, biomass, anaerobic digestion, geothermal electric, fuel cells using renewable sources, and cogeneration and microturbines. The two-part interconnection application process connects your renewable generator system to the electric grid. This complex process takes approximately 80 business days from when Pepco receives your complete application to when Pepco issues your Authorization to Operate, including the time during which your contractor installs your solar array or other renewable generating system.

For customers in the District who to wish to feed excess generation back onto the grid and receive bill credits, a fully completed and signed D.C. Customer Net Energy Metering Contract also is required and a net-capable meter will be installed at your premise.

Here is information to guide you through the process.
