District of Columbia Environmental Disclosure

This disclosure is required by the District of Columbia Public Service Commission.

The following air emissions information is for Pepco customers with Standard Offer Service. Standard Offer Service is provided to those customers who have not chosen an alternative electricity supplier. Power plants can generate electricity from a number of different fuel sources, resulting in different emissions. Pepco will report air emissions data to customers twice annually.

The data provided are for January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2004.

Air Emissions

The amount of air pollution associated with the generation of electricity production for Pepco and for the Mid-Atlantic region is shown below.

Pounds Emitted per Megawatt Hour of Electricity Generated
  Pepco Mid-Atlantic
Regional
Average
Sulfur Dioxide (SO2) 8.5 8.5
Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) 2.9 2.9
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) 1,195 1,195

CO2 is a "greenhouse gas," which may contribute to global climate change. SO2 and NOx released into the atmosphere react to form acid rain. NOx also reacts to form ground level ozone, an unhealthful component of "smog."
