Girl Scouts Take the Light Bulb Challenge

The Girl Scout Council of the Nation’s Capital is challenging each of its 63,000 scouts to change at least one traditional incandescent light bulb to a more energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) or light emitting diode (LED) bulb. Girl Scouts will track their activities at www.gscnc.org/lightbulbchallenge.html.

The Girl Scouts teamed up with Pepco to ensure that families with limited incomes could participate in the challenge. Pepco is providing financial and technical assistance to help the Council purchase more than 5,000 CFL light bulbs for their Scouts.

This is yet another way Pepco helps residential customers reduce energy consumption. Through Pepco’s “Residential Lighting and Appliance Program,” compact fluorescent lights are available at discounted rates in participating stores in the District of Columbia and Montgomery and Prince George’s
counties
