PEPCO REMINDS CUSTOMERS TO ASK FOR IDENTIFICATION

Friday, July 19, 2002

For Immediate Release
July 19, 2002

Before letting a stranger into your home, be sure they are who they say they are. All Pepco employees carry a Pepco-issued photo ID card. If possible, ask to see it before opening the door.

A recent incident in Takoma Park -- committed by a person posing as a Pepco employee -- brings about the need for heightened awareness.

All Pepco employees carry a plastic photo ID card with a Pepco logo and will readily show it to you on request. When possible, Pepco and its contractors attempt to contact customers before arriving at a residence.

Customers are asked to call Pepco at (202) 833-7500 or local police if they have suspicions about people claiming to work for Pepco.
