Pepco Sets New Winter Peak Demand Record

Pepco customers set a new winter record demand for power today as they awoke to windy, sub-freezing temperatures.
Power demand peaked at 5,125 megawatts at 7:38 a.m. today, breaking the previous winter record of 5,010 MW on Jan. 18, 1994. Energy forecasters said even higher demand was expected tonight if weather predictions hold.
Despite the extreme weather, no significant power problems were reported.
