Pepco Donates 6,180 Smoke Alarms to Metro Area Fire/EMS Departments

Utility Joins the “Change your Clocks, Change your Batteries” Smoke Alarm Campaign
WASHINGTON , D.C. – Pepco’s Emergency Services Partnership Program is donating 6,000 standard smoke alarms and 180 special smoke alarms for the hearing impaired to the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, and Prince Georges County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Departments. Each department will receive 2,000 traditional smoke alarms and 60 smoke alarms for the hard of hearing that emit a bright, white strobe light, in addition to an audible alarm, to alert individuals to the presence of smoke.
This donation coincides with the Fire/Emergency Medical Services smoke alarm campaign "Change your Clocks, Change your Batteries." As Washington, D.C., area residents roll back the time on their clocks this weekend, firefighters will remind them to move ahead with checking their smoke alarms and installing new batteries if needed.
“This brings Pepco's Emergency Services Partnership Program total over the past six years to 16,500 regular smoke alarms and 600 hearing impaired smoke alarms,” said Thomas Graham, President, Pepco Region. “It’s one way that we can directly support the mission of our first responders to save lives by promoting fire safety throughout the Pepco service territory.”
