Pepco Crews Restore Power to Thousands

Restoration Continues as Second Winter Storm Approaches

WASHINGTON D.C. - Pepco crews have restored power to thousands of customers since the record breaking winter storm hit last Friday evening. As of 6 p.m. today, some 20,000 Pepco customers remained without power, the majority being in the hardest hit areas of Montgomery County.

"We recognize that this is a disruption to the lives of our customers, but we want our customers to know that our crews continue to work around the clock under some extremely tough conditions to restore power," said Thomas H. Graham, Pepco Region President. "We understand that another storm is heading for our region. We are taking all necessary steps to prepare for the oncoming storm and to continue our current restoration efforts."

The National Weather Service predicts the next snowstorm will hit the region Tuesday and continue into Wednesday bringing heavy, wet snow and high winds to the area. This storm could cause additional outages and hamper restoration efforts.

To report power outages, call 1-877-PEPCO62 (1-877-737-2662). Customers should not depend on neighbors to report their outage.

Pepco also reminds customers to follow these important safety tips:

· Never attempt to remove trees or limbs from any utility line. Treat all fallen wires as if they are energized.

· If using a portable generator during a power outage, always operate it outside, away from doors and windows to prevent deadly carbon monoxide fumes from entering the home.

· If a home has a heat pump, clear the ice and snow away from the unit so that air can circulate properly.
