Social Media Program Recognized in Industrial & Manufacturing Category
WASHINGTON , D.C. - Pepco was named a 2010 Silver SABRE award finalist in the Industrial and Manufacturing category by The Holmes Group for their social media response during the July 2010 summer storms. The other companies in the Industrial and Manufacturing category include Panasonic Solutions Company, The Dow Chemical Company, Agion, and Exelon Corporation. Pepco's proactive effort during the July 2010 storms created a receptive online following that proved willing to help distribute critical information. Between the storm's onset on Sunday, July 25, and Thursday, July 29, there were more than 7,600 mentions of "Pepco" in the social media sphere. More importantly, "PepcoConnect" was the third most consistent keyword in all of those discussions (only behind "Pepco" and "power"), indicating that customers and the media turned to the company's social media program as a credible and reliable resource.
Pepco successfully launched their social media program in February 2009 with a customer service focused role on Twitter. Today, the role of their program is multifunctional, comprised of responding to customer complaints, sharing relevant stakeholder information, and marketing customer programs.
