Pepco Sponsors Workforce Readiness Job Fair and Graduation

Washington, D.C-Through a strategic partnership, Pepco, Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and Prince George's Community College will host a three-day Workforce Readiness Training Program from June 17 to June 19. This program is in its third year and for the first time includes high school students from Montgomery and Prince George's County.

50 students will receive valuable, hands-on experience to prepare for career and employment opportunities. Human Resources Professionals from Pepco have designed, developed and will facilitate the following modules during the three-day training session:

  • Creating an Effective Resume,
  • Interviewing 101,
  • Leveraging Social Media In Your Employment Search,
  • Job Readiness,
  • Dressing for Success,
  • Generational Awareness In Today's Workplace;
  • Key Strategies to Navigate the Job Application Process.
 

"It is critical that youth have the proper skills necessary to obtain employment in today's extremely competitive job market,'' said Donna Cooper, president Pepco Region. "The Workforce Readiness Program was designed by our Human Resources personnel to prepare high school students for successfully navigating advanced techniques and technology hiring managers use to select the best candidates for employment."

The Workforce Readiness Training Program will culminate with a graduation ceremony at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, June 19 that will feature guest speakers including   Elizabeth M. Hewlett, Chairwoman, Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission,  and Donna Wiseman, Ph.D., Dean, College of Education of the University of Maryland.
