Pepco Announces Peak Savings Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco customers will have an opportunity to save money by conserving energy on Friday, Sept. 25, a Peak Savings Day.

For Pepco Maryland customers, the Maryland Public Service Commission has approved the Peak Energy Savings Credit program. It rewards Pepco Maryland customers by offering bill credits when Maryland customers reduce energy use at home during Peak Savings Days. Tomorrow's Peak Savings Day conservation period will be called from 2-3 p.m. Pepco Maryland customers will automatically receive a phone call giving the hours for reducing energy use. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text.

Pepco Maryland customers who reduce energy use below their specified baseline during the specific hours of the Peak Savings Day can receive a credit of $1.25 off their bill for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced usage, through the Peak Energy Savings Credit program.

For Maryland and District of Columbia customers participating in Pepco's voluntary Energy Wise Rewards program, a conservation period will be called from 2-3 p.m., Friday. This means that Pepco will cycle the participants' air conditioner compressors off and on for short intervals during these hours. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their home, and those who do should experience only a 1-to 3-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after the event ends at 3 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.

Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are voluntary programs. Customers can learn more about Peak Energy Savings Credit by calling 1-855-730-PEAK or visit To learn more about Energy Wise Rewards call 1-866-353-5798 or visit
