We are closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic, and we are here to help customers through temporary or extended financial hardship. We are suspending service disconnections and waiving new late payment fees through at least July 1. We will be working with customers on a case-by-case basis to establish payment arrangements and identify energy assistance options. We have programs to help. Learn more here.
For Immediate Release
WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 7, 2016) - Pepco customers will have an opportunity to save money by
conserving energy on Friday, July 8.
An increased demand for electricity throughout the
Mid-Atlantic region is anticipated for Friday, July 8. While the region's power supply is expected
to be sufficient to meet high demand, Pepco customers can help conserve energy
and save money through incentive programs during the Peak Savings Day. Tomorrow's Peak Savings Day conservation
period will be called from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Pepco's Maryland customers are able to participate in the
Peak Energy Savings Credit program, which rewards customers by offering a bill
credit of $1.25 for every kilowatt hour (kWh) of reduced energy use below the
customer's average energy use during specific hours on a Peak Savings Day. Pepco
Maryland customers will receive a phone call indicating the hours to reduce
energy use. Customers can also choose to be notified by email or text.
For Maryland and District of Columbia customers
participating in Pepco's Energy Wise Rewards® program, a
conservation period will be called from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. This means that Pepco
will cycle participants' air conditioner compressors off and on for short
intervals. Because the air conditioner fan will continue to run, most customers
will not notice a temperature change in their home, and those who do should
experience only a 1- to 3-degree change. It may take up to a half-hour after
the event ends at 5 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.
Peak Energy Savings Credit and Energy Wise Rewards are
voluntary programs. Energy Wise Rewards offers
customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which
the utility installs at no charge. Customers can learn more about Peak Energy
Savings Credit by calling 1-855-730-PEAK or visit www.pepco.com/peak. To learn
more about Energy Wise Rewards call 1-866-353-5798 or visit pepco.com/rewards.
