For Immediate Release
July 21,  1999

The District of Columbia Public Service Commission issued an order July 20, 1999, that reschedules the hearings and filings pertaining to Potomac Electric Power Company's (NYSE:POM) request to sell its electricity generating assets. Formal hearings are now set for a five-day period between August 12 and August 20, and community hearings are to be held in August and/or September, according to the PSC order.

"We are very pleased that hearings are back on track," said William T. Torgerson, Senior Vice President, External Affairs and General Counsel of Pepco. "We support the City Council's full airing of all the issues relating to the restructuring of the electricity industry in the District of Columbia, and we now feel that both the regulatory and legislative reviews can proceed."
