Pepco Sends Crews to Assist in Restoring Power in Tornado's Wake

Pepco today dispatched more than 30 repair and construction crews to assist its neighboring utility, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO), in restoring power following Sunday`s devastating tornado.

Crews and their vehicles were sent from Pepco service facilities in Rockville and Forestville, Md., along with company contract crews from Rockingham Construction and W.A. Chester, a Pepco subsidiary.

SMECO requested Pepco`s assistance after daybreak revealed the extent of the damage to the electric distribution system in Charles and Calvert counties. Pepco has assisted SMECO in the past with severe outage situations.
