Pepco And Regional Utilities Renew Request For Customers To Use Energy Wisely

Pepco and other regional utilities today are again encouraging customers to use energy wisely. This is the third such request this week, as scorching heat and high humidity continue to blanket the area.

While Pepco expects to have enough electricity to meet the heavy demand for power, the PJM Interconnection, of which Pepco is a member, is asking customers to use energy prudently to help avoid possible power supply problems.

Pepco recommends the following energy conservation measures, if health permits, especially from 3-7 p.m., when electricity demand is at its highest:

Close curtains and blinds to keep out the sun and retain cooler air inside your home or apartment,
Set your air-conditioner thermostat higher than usual,
Postpone using major heat-producing appliances like electric stoves and clothes dryers until the cooler evening hours, and
Turn off non-essential lights, appliances and equipment.
