Pepco Employees "eCycle" 1,000 Pounds of Electronic Equipment

November 18, 2002

Pepco employees scoured their garages, attics and basements to find 1,000 pounds of electronic equipment to recycle during a two-day "eCycle" drive in conjunction with America Recycles Day on Nov. 15.

Employee donations included television sets, computers, monitors, scanners, cell phones, printers, copiers, VCRs and fax machines. Pepco delivered three pallets of small electronics to the collection site at the National Mall on Nov. 15.

Pepco was the only private company invited to participate in the "eCycle" event whose other partners were federal and District of Columbia government agencies.

"We are honored to have been asked to participate in this campaign," said Jim Potts, Vice President, Environment for Pepco Holdings, Inc., Pepco's parent company. "We take it as further recognition of Pepco's proven track record of environmental stewardship. I also would like to thank our employees for their generosity and for showing their personal commitment to the environment."

In October, Pepco was honored as a "WasteWise Program Champion" by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its "impressive waste-reduction achievements" in 2001. Since 1995, Pepco has recycled nearly 50 million pounds of materials including computers, office paper, used motor oil and steel.
