Pepco Crews Working Around the Clock to Restore Power

For Immediate Release
June 13, 2003 4:30 PM

Service Restored to More than 75 Percent of Those Affected

Pepco crews continue to make progress restoring power following one of the most violent storms to hit its service area this year.

Some of the larger repair jobs are nearing completion late this afternoon and should restore service to several thousand customers. Fresh crews are being brought in this evening to relieve those who have been working 16-hour shifts since restoration efforts began.

Nearly 34,000 customers lost power at the height of the storm. By 4:15 p.m. today, 7,150 customers remained without power: 4,400 in the District, 2,500 in Prince George's County and 250 in Montgomery County.

Most customers are expected to have power back by late tonight, with full restoration expected overnight, unless new storms cause additional outages. The company is keeping a close eye on developing storms that could affect the D.C. area.

Pepco is distributing dry ice until 8 p.m., or while supplies last, at RFK Stadium, Parking Lot 4, for those still without power.

Pepco also reminds customers to keep away from downed power lines and report them, or any other life threatening power emergency, by calling 202-872-3432. To report an outage, call 1-877-PEPCO-62.
