Outage Update 12 p.m.
Pepco Crews Continue Work to Restore Power

About 200 Pepco repair crews continue working today to restore power to customers without service due to high winds that have battered the Washington area since yesterday. Most of the outages were caused by tree limbs blown into power lines and by fallen trees that have taken down lines and damaged poles.

Pepco estimates that the majority of the remaining customers will be restored by this evening. However, crews will be working into tonight in areas where outages affect small numbers of customers.

As of 12 p.m. the outages totaled:

Area
# of Customers
Customers Out
District of Columbia 224,000 1,200
Montgomery County 286,000 2,000
Prince George`s County 210,000 1,100
Totals 720,000 4,300

Pepco strongly urges customers to make safety a priority by staying away from downed power lines. All downed lines should be treated as if they are energized and individuals should not approach or touch them. If citizens see a downed wire or have a power outage, they should call 1-877-PEPCO-62 and report it.

Further outage updates are available at Pepco`s Web site: www.pepco.com.
