Pepco Sets Record Winter Peak Power Demand

For Immediate Release
January 28, 2005

Pepco, power supplier to the nation's capital, set an unofficial record winter peak demand today as customers awoke to frigid temperatures and pushed up thermostats to combat the chill gripping the region.

Customers demanded 5,440 megawatts of electricity at 7:58 a.m., surpassing the previous winter peak of 5,393 megawatts set Jan. 23, 2003. A final tabulation could result in a slight adjustment in the amount of power consumed by customers.

Pepco's all-time record peak demand is 6,364 megawatts set July 29, 2002.

Pepco, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), delivers electricity to more than 725,000 customers in the District of Columbia and Montgomery and Prince George's counties in Maryland.
