In conjunction with "African American Legacy," an exhibition of work by renowned sculptor Ed Dwight, the artist will participate in a "Meet the Artist" event on Thursday, Feb. 17., 4:00-5:30 p.m. Corcoran ArtReach students will enjoy not only a reception, but also the opportunity for one-on-one conversation with the artist. Mr. Dwight will also make a few remarks to the assembled students. This event is co-sponsored by the Capital City Chapter of The Links, Inc.
The exhibition, which is at Pepco's Edison Place Gallery through March 18, features a maquette, or scale model, of a major component of Dwight's bronze memorial sculpture for the planned Black Revolutionary War Patriots Memorial. The memorial, designed by Dwight and the design firms Devrouax & Purnell of Washington and EDAW of Alexandria, Va., will be sited on the National Mall between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.
A generous sampling of Dwight's other work, such as a series of torsos with instruments of significant African American musicians, is also on display at Edison Place Gallery.
"African American Legacy" will be open to the public at Pepco's Edison Place Gallery, 701 Ninth St., NW (gallery entrance on Eighth St., NW), Tuesday through Friday, noon to 4 p.m.
