(Washington, D.C.) -- Pepco crews continue to work around the clock to restore power, but as quickly as we restore outages, new outages are reported due to the continued rain and flooding across the area. The bad weather is extending restoration times for some customers, and service restoration estimates may change. Pepco urges customers to please call back periodically to 1-877-PEPCO-62 to receive updated restoration estimates.

While crews from Pepco work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible, we want our customers to take extra precautions and stay safe. In some areas, electrical facilities have become water logged due to the heavy rain and weakened trees have fallen on power lines, causing power outages and downed wires.

Important Safety Messages:

• If you see a downed power line, consider it live even if your power is out. Don't touch fallen wires, and keep children and pets away. If you see wires on the ground, call Pepco immediately at 1-877-PEPCO-62.
• If your basement is flooded, DO NOT attempt to turn off power or operate circuit breakers while standing in water. Even wading in a shallow puddle or flooded basement that is exposed to an energized line could cause a harmful or fatal electrical contact.
• Never attempt to remove trees or limbs from any utility line. Assume all objects touching a power line are energized.
• And don't connect a generator to your home's main electric service panel. Improperly installed generators can endanger your family and the utility crews working to restore your power.
