As part of an environmental management program, Pepco is adding a 42-foot hybrid bucket truck to its Rockville fleet. The vehicle - an International Diesel Chassis with an Eaton Hybrid drive-train assembly - is the first in a joint project between Pepco and Eaton Industries. The companies will evaluate the truck's performance during the next 12 months.
The hybrid truck will produce significantly less emissions and help lower Pepco's fuel costs. In addition to other energy-saving features, the truck is equipped to operate the utility bucket in an electric-only mode with the engine off. This feature eliminates engine noise and significantly reduces emissions while workers maintain utility equipment.
