Today at 10:15 a.m., Pepco restored power to all customers affected by the outage that began at about 7:25 a.m. Pepco crews isolated the problem and began picking up customer load around 9:50 a.m. and all customers were restored by 10:15 a.m.
At about 7:25 a.m., a switch on a transformer at Pepco's 10th Street and Massachusetts Avenue substation in northwest Washington failed. This caused protective devices to operate, de-energizing all supplies to the facility to prevent further damage. The resulting power outage affected approximately 12,000 customers in the downtown area, including multiple government offices, the Washington Convention Center, the Verizon Center and eight Metro passenger stations.
