Pepco Holdings Sending Crews and Equipment to Pennsylvania

Mutual Assistance Sought Following Heavy Rain and Strong Winds

In response to calls for mutual assistance, Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) said today more than 40 employees and contractors would leave this evening for Pittsburgh, Pa., to help restore power in that region in the wake of heavy rain and wind storms this past weekend.

The crews consist of more than 20 employees from Delmarva Power and Atlantic City Electric and 20 contract personnel from Pepco. Several supervisory and safety personnel as well as vehicle mechanics are part of the contingent.

The workers are expected to be gone for about five days as they assist in restoring power to more than 60,000 customers without electric service in western Pennsylvania.

"We welcome the opportunity to help get the lights back on for western Pennsylvania residents," said PHI Vice President Stan Wisniewski. "Our crews are experienced in storm restoration and take their responsibilities seriously."

On Saturday, PHI sent more than 50 employees to southeast Texas to assist in bringing back electric service following the devastation wreaked by Hurricane Ike.

Wisniewski said PHI balanced the assignments across its three utility subsidiaries and regions so as not to leave any area shorthanded in case of local service problems. Under regional mutual assistance agreements, electric utilities across the nation help each other recover from severe storm damage.
