Pepco Holdings, Inc. Headquarters, Edison Place Earns Energy Star Award

PHI Receives a Gold Star Plaque for Energy Efficiency

Edison Place, the state-of-the-art and energy-efficient headquarters of PHI, has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) prestigious 2008 ENERGY STAR Award, the national symbol for superior energy efficiency and environmental protection . A profile and photos of our 10-story, 384,000 square-foot office building located in Washington, D.C.'s Penn Quarter, will be prominently displayed on ENERGY STAR's Web site, www.energystar.gov, along with the other 2008 winners, from across the country.

ENERGY STAR, a joint program of the U.S. Department of Energy and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency helps individuals and companies to save money and protect the environment through energy-efficient products and practices. Commercial buildings that earn the ENERGY STAR label use an average of 40 percent less energy than typical buildings and also release 35 percent less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere .

At Edison Place, special attention has been paid to installing energy-efficient light bulbs and ballasts on all floors and occupancy sensors in every office and the majority of the building's conference rooms. Adjustments also have been made to all of the controls to increase the efficiency of the building's heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.

"Our Facilities team led by D.C. Facility Operations & Maintenance Manager Genet Ketsela, and our building management firm Cassidy and Pinkard, have worked very hard to ensure that the appropriate projects were funded to continue the energy-efficient vision of this building,'' says Dave Motil, PHI Group Manager of Facilities, Security & Real Estate. "We are extremely proud of what Edison Place represents-a national model of excellence."
