Pepco Donates 830 Smoke Alarms to Prince George's Fire/EMS

Life Saving Alarms for the Hearing Impaired included

WASHINGTON - Pepco's Emergency Services Partnership Program is donating 800 standard smoke alarms and 30 special smoke alarms for the hearing impaired to the Prince George's County Fire/Emergency Medical Services Department. The 30 smoke alarms for the hard of hearing emit a bright, white strobe light, in addition to an audible alarm, to alert individuals to the presence of smoke.

"This donation is a great way to support the community and strengthen the partnerships that exist between Pepco and our first responders," said Pete Pedersen, Pepco Emergency Services Partnership Program coordinator. "It's a need that is important to our customers and first responders, so Pepco stepped up."

Some two dozen people have lost their lives in home fires in recent weeks in Prince George's County prompting door-to-door canvassing by fire department personnel to ensure that their homes have smoke alarms that function properly.

This is the fifth year Pepco has participated in the Prince George's County smoke alarm program. Throughout the region, Pepco has donated some 10,000 smoke alarms to fire and emergency service departments in Prince George's and Montgomery counties, and the District of Columbia.
