Two Employee Programs create "Ambassadors" for the Community
WASHINGTON - As 2009 brings increased awareness in energy issues, Pepco's Speakers Bureau and the District of Columbia's Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) programs provide customers with a broad range of information on their energy concerns. Both programs give up-to-date information from promoting energy assistance for low-income customers to energy conservation insight and renewable energy solutions.
"Our Speakers Bureau is very well received, and our customers appreciate our willingness to go into the community and discuss issues that are important to them," says Zenayda Mostofi, Public Affairs Representative, and program coordinator. Speakers Bureau members travel the entire service area communicating a variety of public forums, including local civic groups, schools, and to various other audiences reaching close to 20,000 customers in 2008.
The Pepco ANC Program began in 1993. This program is unique to our customers living in the District of Columbia. Each Pepco "Ambassador" is responsible for a particular ANC that meets monthly. This dedicated group of volunteers provides energy information for thousands of D.C. residents every year. The goal is simple; develop an outreach that fosters a good relationship between the company and the customers we serve. "Basically, you listen to the commissioners and the neighbors attending the meetings, and if there are Pepco issues, you respond to them," says Linda Jo Smith, Public Affairs Representative, Pepco ANC coordinator. "We become one with the community."
