Tree Line USA Award Stems from Commitment in Caring for Urban Forest
WASHINGTON , D.C. -Pepco was named a Tree Line USA Utility for the seventh year in recognition of its national leadership in caring for trees. The utility was selected for this prestigious award by the Arbor Day Foundation.
The Tree Line USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in cooperation with the National Association of State Foresters. The program recognizes utilities that meet three requirements: provide a program of quality tree care, annual worker training in quality tree care practices and a tree planting and public education program. In meeting these requirements, these utilities have demonstrated commitment to public education, tree planting and quality tree care.
"Across America, people are recognizing and celebrating how vital trees are to our cities and towns," said John Rosenow, Chief Executive of the Arbor Day Foundations. "Trees help reduce peak demand by conserving energy. They also clean the air and water, increase property value and make our homes more comfortable, livable places."
"Pepco is committed to the communities we serve. We work hard to ensure our workers are properly trained in quality tree-care practices and in helping our customers plant appropriate trees near utility lines, not only to provide beautiful trees for the future, but also to protect our environment," said Thomas Graham, President, Pepco Region.
The Arbor Day Foundation, a nonprofit education organization is dedicated to tree planting and environmental stewardship.
