New Manager has Extensive Environmental Experience

WASHINGTON---Pepco Holdings, Inc. today announced the appointment of Bob Jubic, an engineer with more than 30 years of environmental experience, as the new project manager for the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAPP), a 150-mile high-voltage transmission line that will provide a vital second power delivery route for customers on the Delmarva Peninsula when completed in 2014. The 500-kilovolt line will resolve regional reliability issues and also provide additional import capacity to the Washington area and to Charles, Prince George's and Calvert counties in southern Maryland.

Currently PHI's manager of environmental planning, Jubic, 52, has been instrumental in the planning, licensing and environmental permitting for many of the company's transmission lines constructed in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and the District of Columbia since he joined the company in 1986. As MAPP project manager, he succeeds Vincent Maione, whose promotion to President of the Atlantic City Electric Region was announced earlier this month.

"Bob's extensive experience and knowledge of the permitting process and successful track record in working with stakeholders to resolve sensitive environmental issues makes him the ideal candidate to complete the MAPP project," said William M. Gausman, PHI Senior Vice President for Asset Management and Planning.

MAPP will extend from Possum Point in northern Virginia, across Maryland and the Chesapeake Bay and continue through the Delmarva Peninsula to Indian River near Millsboro, Del. The line will provide needed backbone transmission to improve reliability and enable the peninsula to access power from sources west and south of the bay where numerous renewable power projects are planned. Electric customers on the peninsula are currently dependent on a single point of connection for power from the north and a steadily decreasing amount of locally generated electricity to meet their needs despite population growth and increasing demand for power.

"As with many of PHI's past transmission line projects, the successful completion of MAPP will require the appropriate balance of competing interests," Jubic said. "This will require careful consideration of the need to provide adequate and reliable power supplies, environmental factors, community interests, regulatory requirements and cost."

Jubic has been part of the MAPP project team since the line was proposed in 2007 and has participated in extensive community outreach. He has earned a bachelor and Master of Science degree in chemical engineering from Widener University and a bachelor's degree in environmental resource management from Pennsylvania State University. He is also a licensed professional engineer.
