Pepco Holdings Named to Top 50 "Best Workplaces" for Workers Over 50 AARP Honor is Third in Five Years

Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE: POM), one of the largest energy delivery companies in the mid-Atlantic region, was today named by AARP to its 2009 list of Best Employers for Workers 50 and Over. This marked the third time in five years that PHI has been honored by the organization for "demonstrated progressive policies and programs" for older workers.

"This honor underscores the value PHI places in its tenured employees, particularly those 50 and over, who contribute significantly to the company's overall success," said Joy J. Dorsey, the company's director of diversity and supplier diversity.

AARP said PHI, which employs over 5,000 workers in three states and the District of Columbia, has successfully hired mature workers or retirees through senior placement agencies and also turns to its own retirees when looking to fill a position.

"PHI is currently working toward formalizing a phased retirement program for workers and offers their pre- and 65+ retirees most of the same health benefits as current employees" AARP said in announcing its Top 50 list. "The company offers flexible work arrangements and emphasizes cross-department/field training learning and development opportunities."

Forty-eight percent of PHI employees are 50 and older, with an average tenure of 26 years.
