Pepco Takes Fleet Transformation on the Road to Washington Auto Show

Hybrid Bucket Truck and Plug-in Hybrid SUV Join Advanced Technology Superhighway

Washington - Pepco is rolling out its latest hybrid bucket truck and hybrid plug-in SUV for the 2010 Washington Auto Show. Pepco's hybrid vehicles are on display at the "Advanced Technology Superhighway" area of the Auto Show.

Pepco is responding to the nation's energy and environmental challenges by implementing technology solutions that reduce emissions. The company's fleet transformation demonstrates a commitment to implementing green initiatives while helping the nation reduce its dependence on foreign oil. To that end, Pepco is investing in hybrid vehicles. "This is the future," said Thomas Graham, Pepco Region President. "When the bucket is in use, it operates in quiet electric-only mode eliminating the need for constant vehicle idling to power the aerial device."

Pepco's hybrid electric bucket truck uses biodiesel as a fuel thereby decreasing the company's carbon footprint.

Pepco's passenger vehicles are also being replaced with hybrids. Beginning in 2009, 100 percent of the passenger vehicles purchased by Pepco were hybrid. Pepco's fleet currently includes 32 hybrid passenger cars, 19 hybrid SUVs and five hybrid bucket trucks for a total of 56 hybrid vehicles.
