Pepco Alerts the Public to April Fool's Hoax

Bogus Web Site Targets Utility Customers

WASHINGTON - Pepco urges customers to beware of an April Fool's hoax. Pepco customers were directed to a fake Web site that displayed false information about the utility. The Web site may not be secure and may cause computer issues if visited. Links on the Web site redirect users to Pepco's official Web site: www.pepco.com.

In addition, a bogus letter allegedly signed by the parent company's CEO containing the same false information was distributed to homes of some Pepco customers.

Statements stipulating that customers should contact the Pepco call center for renewable energy adjustments are also false. Rate increases are not being cancelled and currently there are no rate adjustments.

Additional facts to remember:

· Pepco does not generate electricity.

· Pepco purchases wholesale electricity through an auction process supervised by the Public Service Commission and distributes it to customers who do not choose alternate suppliers.

· Suppliers providing electricity are certified by PJM Interconnection, the Regional Transmission Operator in this region and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), including suppliers of green power.

Pepco is committed to providing its customers with affordable electricity from renewable sources. District of Columbia and Maryland law requires Pepco to increase every year the proportion of energy from renewable resources in their total portfolio of power supply.

To find out about our green initiatives, customers should visit the "Our Energy Future" tab on Pepco's Web site: http://www.pepco.com/energy/blueprint.
