Campaign Designed to Help District Customers Save Money and Conserve Energy

WASHINGTON, D.C. - As summer in the District of Columbia ushers in higher temperatures and increased energy consumption, Pepco today announced it is helping District customers save money and improve efficiency with its Appliance and Lighting program.

"During the summer months, increased energy use causes costs to rise, especially for our customers who use older and less efficient air conditioners and other appliances," said Thomas Graham, Pepco Region President. "We encourage the use of ENERGY STAR^® qualified appliances, but we understand that not everyone can afford an upgrade. We're doing what we can to help by offering cash rewards, a free appliance recycling event and rebates to help defray the cost of purchasing more efficient appliances."

Appliance Sweepstakes

Now through Tuesday, July 20^th, Pepco customers in the District can enter to win one of five $1,000 gift cards to use toward the cost of new ENERGY STAR® qualified appliances. Customers in D.C. will soon receive details in the mail along with a postage-paid entry form. They also can enroll through the company's Web site, pepco.com. Winners will be chosen at random during Pepco's 2010 D.C. Appliance "Swap."

Appliance "Swap" Recycling Event

On Saturday, July 24^th, Pepco will host its first-ever District Appliance "Swap," a free recycling event. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., customers can bring old appliances to The Home Depot® at 901 Rhode Island Avenue, NE and Pepco will recycle or safely dispose of them at no charge. Pepco representatives will be on-hand to distribute appliance rebate application forms to customers planning to replace their old units with more efficient models.

In addition to free appliance recycling, the event will feature:

· energy efficiency information from Pepco and the District Department of the Environment,

· family-friendly activities hosted by The Home Depot,

· live entertainment and refreshments, and

· interactive displays and activities.

Appliance Rebates

For a limited time, Pepco customers in the District can receive rebates of up to $50 on the purchase of certain energy efficient appliances. They include:

· $50 rebates for ENERGY STAR® qualified refrigerators,

· $25 rebates for ENERGY STAR® qualified room air conditioners, and

· $20 rebates for electric water heaters w/energy factor of 0.93 or greater.

Customers also can also take advantage of instant discounts on high-efficiency compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). Customers can save $1.50 on single bulbs and $3 on multipacks when shopping at participating retail locations throughout the District. A list of these retailers is available at pepco.com.

Pepco District customers interested in submitting a rebate application or taking advantage of the CFL discount program should do so on or before Friday, August 13, 2010.
