Pepco Wins Community Service Award From the Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County

Utility Receives Top Prize in Large Business Category for Exemplary Community Outreach

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco will be honored by the Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC) on Friday, November 5, 2010, from Noon to 2:30 p.m., as this year's recipient of the Community Service Award in the Large Business Category. The ceremony will be held at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center, located at 5701 Marinelli Road in Bethesda, MD.

A CVC-MC judging panel of previous award recipients selected Pepco as this year's winner for the company's continuous community outreach within the Washington Metropolitan area. For years, Pepco has been a proud contributor to the United Way Campaign, annually raising and giving millions of dollars to the campaign through employee donations and corporate matching funds.

A subsidiary of parent company Pepco Holdings, Inc., Pepco also created the Guiding Light Leadership Program to provide mentorship opportunities to area senior high school students as well as scholarships toward furthering their education. In 2010, Pepco awarded more than $25,000 in scholarships to 14 area students from across the company's service territory in Washington, D.C., as well as Prince George's and Montgomery counties.

The company's greatest impact comes each year with annual donations through the PHI Community Foundation Golf & Tennis Classic. This year, through sponsorships, the PHI Foundation was able to raise and donate more than $221,000 to local charities in Washington, D.C., as well as Montgomery and Prince George's counties. Since its inception in 2005, the PHI Community Foundation has donated more than $1 million to area charities.

"We are extremely proud to receive this award,'' said Thomas H. Graham, President, Pepco Region. "Pepco has always taken its role as a corporate citizen very seriously, and it is rewarding to know that others see the impact that our corporate officers and employees continue to make in the areas we service. We remain committed to not only providing safe, reliable and affordable service to our customers but also working within our communities to make them better places to live and work."

The CVC-MC Community Service Award comes on the heels of another recent honor for Pepco. In June, Pepco became the first company ever to be honored by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce in the newly-created category of Large Company Partner in Business as it relates to Supplier Diversity. Created in 1987, Pepco's supplier diversity initiative has been widely recognized as a national model for the utility industry.

The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County (CVC-MC) educates businesses on how to partner with and support nonprofit organizations by helping create successful volunteer/charitable programs that positively impact the business, its employees and the local community.
