Employee and Corporate Contributions Outperform in Tough Economy
WASHINGTON - Pepco, part of the Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) family of companies, carries PHI's United Way banner in the National Capital Region. The company historically has been an ardent supporter of United Way, contributing not only substantial cash donations, but also leadership, time and effort from many dedicated employees. PHI Chairman, President and CEO Joseph M. Rigby is on the National Capital Region's Board of Directors and serves as Treasurer and Chair of its Finance Committee.
PHI's 2010 United Way fundraising goal was "ambitious, in light of the year's unsettled economy," according to PHI Director of System Operations Reginald McCauley, this year's executive campaign sponsor. But employees worked extra hard, and their efforts paid off. The latest figures indicate an unofficial campaign total of about $710,000. With the company match of 50 percent, PHI will send well over $1 million through United Way to agencies serving communities across the mid-Atlantic region. United Way organizations in each region where PHI companies operate - National Capital (Pepco); Southern New Jersey (Atlantic City Electric); Wilmington (Delmarva Power); and Delmarva Peninsula (Delmarva Power - Bay Region) - receive a share in the campaign total proportionate to company donations pledged in that region. Since the United Way campaign receives active support across all the PHI companies, each region's portion is sufficient to help local agencies meet many of their communities' diverse needs.
Upon receiving unofficial campaign totals, "I'm very proud of the results of this year's United Way campaign," said Joe Rigby . "Despite challenging economic times, one thing hasn't changed here at PHI. That would be the commitment of our employees to the communities we serve. Achieving our campaign goal is a significant milestone, and we can all feel good about making a positive difference in the lives of many who need our support. Well done!"
