Pepco Continues Making Follow-Up Repairs

Crews Strategically Positioned throughout Area for Quick Deployment

WASHINGTON - Pepco has more than 1,000 restoration personnel who are making follow-up repairs to the electric system after damage resulting from last week's snow storm. This army of field personnel is available to address outages resulting from a major weather event. Crews working overnight are strategically positioned throughout the service area to enable faster and more efficient crew dispatch. In addition, Call Center personnel are working extended shifts to answer any customer outage calls.

"We continue to be dedicated to expediting our restoration process," said Tom Graham, President, Pepco Region. "Positioning clusters of crews throughout the service area is one way we are working to do this."

Ice storms can be among the most destructive events affecting a utility's electrical distribution system. The weight of ice can bring down trees and limbs onto wires, snapping poles and downing wires. Restoring service is labor intensive requiring crews to cut and remove fallen trees, install new power poles, restring lines and replace other electrical equipment such as transformers and fuses.

To report a non-life threatening power outage, customers should call 1-877-Pepco-62 (1-877-737-2662) and press one for the automated system. To report an emergency life-threatening situation such as downed or burning wires, customers should call 1-877-Pepco-62 (1-877-737-2662) and press two.
