Tom Graham Seeks to Raise $100K
WASHINGTON , D.C. - Thomas H. Graham, President, Pepco Region, has been nominated to participate in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2011 Man & Woman of the Year campaign. The campaign is a 10-week fundraising competition that includes hundreds of exceptional male and female leaders from across 44 cities in the United States. Beginning on March 31, candidates will compete by raising money to help in the organization's fight against blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma. Participants were chosen based on their dynamic leadership abilities and desire to make a difference in their communities.
Every dollar raised counts as a "vote" in this year's competition. The male and female candidates who raise the most money and receive the greatest number of votes will be named as this year's National Capital Area Chapter's (NCA) Man & Woman of the Year. Local winners with the highest money totals will then be considered in the naming of national titlists at the end of year. Mr. Graham has committed to raising $100 thousand dollars for the society.
Since 2000, the National Capital Area Chapter - which serves Washington, D.C., the Maryland counties of Prince George's and Montgomery and the Virginia counties of Loudoun, Fairfax, Arlington, Alexandria, and Prince William - has placed nine national winners. Additionally, NCA has been the top overall chapter in the nation five times over the past decade.
"I'm glad to be a part of this exceptional campaign," said Graham. "I'm focused on helping The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's National Capital Area Chapter raise more than the $870,000 they did last year."
This year's Grande Finale Gala will mark the National Capital Area Chapter's 20th anniversary of creating successful campaigns. NCA will honor the 2011 Man & Woman of the Year recipients on Saturday, June 11, 2011 from 6 p.m. to midnight at the Ritz Carlton, which is located at 1150 22nd Street, NW, in Washington, D.C.
"With your tax-deductible donation, LLS can continue funding critical research in the fight against blood cancers as well as provide outstanding patient services. Please make your check made payable to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and send in the self-addressed, stamped envelope provided. Please make sure that you write my name, "Thomas H. Graham," on the memo line of the check so that LLS will be able to process it more easily. You also may make an online donation by going to http://nca.mwoy.llsevent.org/thomasgraham. All donations must be received by Friday, June 10, 2011."
