Restoration Effort on Track from Evening Rush Hour Thunderstorms
WASHINGTON - Pepco crews have restored power to thousands of customers following damage caused by an extensive line of powerful and damaging thunderstorms that included strong winds and torrential rain. The storms pushed rapidly through the Metro Region during the evening rush hour knocking out some 12,000 customers at the height of the storms. As of 10:30 p.m., power had been restored to more than 11,000 customers during the course of the restoration effort. Crews are working to restore all customers affected by the rush hour storms by tomorrow morning.
Pepco's restoration effort includes additional crews and will continue overnight. Crews are prepared as another line of potentially damaging thunderstorms is predicted to move through the Metro Region.
Earlier today, Pepco monitored the thunderstorms and pre-scheduled and pre-positioned crews throughout the region as well as called in extra internal crews and personnel to support the restoration process.
