Pepco Helps D.C. Public Schools Kick Off the 2011 School Year

Pepco's "Day of Giving" Supports DCPS' Beautification Day

Washington - Pepco is sponsoring a "Day of Giving" on Saturday, Aug. 20, from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Thomas Elementary School, in support of the District of Columbia Public Schools' (DCPS) Beautification Day. The DCPS Beautification Day was established in 2005 as a city-wide initiative to 'spruce up' District of Columbia public school buildings in preparation of the first day of school. Over 100 schools will benefit from volunteer efforts.

Pepco employees and their families will volunteer by helping to improve the aesthetics of Thomas Elementary School, located in Northeast Washington, D.C . Beautification efforts will include landscaping, trash pick-up, light painting, flower planting, and other external beautification activities.

"I think this is an amazing initiative to be a part of," said Debbi Jarvis, Pepco Holdings Vice President of Corporate Citizenship and Social Responsibility. "Research shows that a clean working environment improves a child's ability to concentrate, learn and succeed in school and beyond."

To learn more about Beautification Day and other DCPS volunteer initiatives, log on to www.dc.gov/DCPS and visit the Parents and Community section.
