Pepco Continues Massive Restoration Effort

More Than 60% of Customers Restored in First 24-Hours

Plans to Restore All Customers Impacted By Hurricane Irene No Later Than Thursday Evening

WASHINGTON - Pepco announced today that it has restored service in the first 24-hours since the storm exited the region to more than 60% of the customers who experienced outages as a result of Hurricane Irene. Of the 220,000 customers who lost power in the wake of Hurricane Irene, service to 140,000 has been restored. Hundreds of Pepco and mutual assistance crews continue working around-the-clock on the restoration effort.

Damage to the electrical infrastructure caused by Hurricane Irene was extensive, and crews have been working 24-hours a day to restore power since the first bands of Hurricane Irene reached the Washington area Saturday morning.

Pepco expects to restore service to all of its customers impacted by the hurricane by Thursday evening. However, most of the remaining customers without power will have their service restored before that time.

"While Thursday evening is the estimated time that all customers from the hurricane will have their power restored, we have already made significant progress. In the first 24-hours since the storm ended, we have restored power to more than 60% of our customers who experienced outages. We expect that the remaining customers who are still without service will be restored before Thursday evening, but we expect that all customers will be restored by then," said Thomas Graham, Pepco Region President. "We want to provide every customer with information that allows them to plan for the worst case scenario."

Pepco has used assessment information to evaluate the extent of the damage to the electric system infrastructure from Hurricane Irene. While restoration has been taking place concurrently, the assessment information is used to more accurately estimate restoration times.
