Pepco Holdings, Inc. Executive Addresses Minority Business Enterprise University Conference

All-Day Event Targets Prince George's County Small, Minority and Women Business Owners

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco Holdings, Inc. (PHI) Vice President, People Strategy and Human Resources Ernest Jenkins addressed the Minority Business Enterprise University Conference being held today at the Greenbelt Marriott in Prince George's County, Maryland. This year's conference theme, "Emerging Markets: Positioning Your Business for Opportunities" highlights potential areas for economic growth and techniques for businesses to thrive in today's rapidly changing markets.

"Pepco is in the midst of implementing energy efficiency programs through EmPOWER Maryland and is installing smart meters across Maryland and beyond," said Ernest Jenkins, Pepco Holdings, Inc. Vice President, People Strategy and Human Resources. "Typically, Pepco uses a competitive bidding process to award contracts to suppliers. In 2010, Pepco procured nearly $38 million in goods and services from minority and women owned businesses. We continue creating and expanding opportunities to reinvest in our communities in 2011."

Pepco was honored by the Maryland Chamber of Commerce in 2010 for its outstanding contributions to supplier diversity. Pepco was the first company ever to be recognized in the newly-created category of Large Company Partner in Business. In the category of innovation, Pepco scored high marks with the judges because of "Sourcing Workflow," an online and transparent tool that allows professional buyers, user groups and PHI's Supplier Diversity team to review what is required for a request for proposal and add qualified bidders for consideration. PHI has garnered other awards such as the Hispanic Business "Top 25 Companies for Supplier Diversity" and The Black Enterprise "Top 40 for Supplier Diversity Senior Management and Board of Director Diversity."
