Pepco Affords 30 Prince George's Students a Chance to Explore Careers

Pepco Teams with Maryland National Park and Planning Commission to Help Sponsor

Career Exploration Camp

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco has partnered with the Maryland National Capital Parks and Planning Commission's Department of Recreations (M-NCPPC) to sponsor and facilitate a Career Exploration Camp in Prince George's County. Pepco's sponsorship will enable 30 Prince George's County High School students to attend a one week Career Exploration Camp.

The camp will improve students' knowledge of career paths and job options both inside and outside of the county. Students will take field trips and visit Pepco's Control Center in Bethesda, Wegman's in Lanham, and WMATA's (Metro) Landover location.

Students will also learn about the top five industries, companies, and jobs within Prince George's County that are hiring. Campers will develop resumes, apply for positions through Pepco's career site (phicareers.com), and engage in mock interviews with camp facilitators. This will provide experience for the job candidates and allow them to see the employers' perspective as well.

Volunteers from Pepco's Talent Acquisition Team, who know first-hand the type of personal qualities and skills employers are seeking, have designed the curriculum for the five-day camp.

The curriculum consists of the following modules:

1. Career Clusters and Future Opportunities

2. Creating a Resume

3. Interviewing 101

4. Applying for Jobs - The Process and the Impact of Background Checks on Your "Employability"

(Continued)

5. Self-Awareness

6. Dressing for Success

7. Job Readiness

8. Social Media: How to Use Social Media to Enhance Your Job Search and Develop Your Employment Brand

9. Generational Awareness in Today's Workplace

Campers will be awarded a Certificate of Completion on the last day of Camp. A Prince George's

County official and a Pepco executive will speak at the closing of the program. M-NCPPC will also invite local media for this event.

The Career Exploration Camp will run June 18 - 22 at the Columbia Park Recreation Center at 1901 Kent Village Drive, Landover, Md.
