Pepco Crews Working Around the Clock to Restore Power

Severe Storms Knock Out Power to More than 65,000 Pepco Customers

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Crews and support personnel are working around the clock to restore power to customers after severe thunderstorms interrupted power to more than 65,000 Pepco customers.

In preparation for the storm, Pepco called in crews and call center personnel. Crews also are coming from sister utility Delmarva Power.

"We've just started our damage assessments, but we're seeing trees and limbs down that damaged poles and crossarms and took down wires," said Thomas H. Graham, President, Pepco Region. "We have activated our storm center, and we'll have crews, the call center and support personnel working 24 hours a day to make these repairs and get all our customers restored."

Based on the initial damage assessments done so far, Pepco hopes to have power restored to the vast majority (90 percent) of affected customers by Monday morning. We will update the estimated times of restoration (ETRs) as we complete our assessments and have more information and as crews make repairs.

Crews already are working on critical priorities - any life-threatening situations and critical facilities - as well as major supply lines - any substations and transmission lines that might be out. Once those are restored, crews will move on to primary or feeder lines and then into neighborhoods to repair secondary lines and service lines to individual customers.

Due to damage from the storm several electrical substations are out of service, and we are working to restore them.

Critical customers who need electricity for life support equipment are advised to seek shelter where power is available.

(Customers are asked to please avoid downed wires, even if they don't appear to be energized. Customers can report downed wires by calling 1-877-PEPCO62 (877-737-2662). Customers also are asked to report outages by calling 1-877-PEPCO62, through pepco.com or through the mobile app, available for download through pepco.com/mobileapp. They also can track their outages online or with a smart device once restoration times have been assigned.
