"Executive Functioning: Through the Eyes of History"

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Pepco Edison Place Gallery is hosting the debut of The White House News Photographers Association (WHNPA) exhibit of photographs of American presidents dating back to the association's founding in 1921. The exhibit, titled, "Executive Functioning: Through the Eyes of History," will be highlighted with a free, public panel discussion on presidential press coverage 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, led by Washington photojournalist and former WHNPA President Dennis Brack.

Since June 13, 1921, when the White House News Photographers Association was formed and Warren Harding was president, members have covered every aspect of the presidency - from the campaign trail to the inauguration and the day-to-day moments that make an indelible mark on history. The images selected for this exhibit include seldom seen photographs of the nation's presidents taken by members of The White House News Photographers Association.

Images include President John F. Kennedy having breakfast with his young daughter, Caroline, in the White House; President Dwight Eisenhower being lassoed by television cowboy and roping legend Montie Montana during the 1953 inaugural parade; President Harry Truman, dressed in a white T-shirt exercising on a Navy ship; and a photograph of President Barack Obama waiting just inside the U.S. Capitol before taking the oath of office in 2009.

The exhibit will be on display through Feb. 1 at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery, which is open noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The gallery is located at 702 Eighth Street, NW between G and H streets, one block west of the Verizon Center.
