Programs Reduce Energy and Save Customers More Money
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco is offering two different voluntary programs for its Maryland customers to save money by saving energy. The Maryland Public Service Commission has approved Peak Energy Savings Credit, which is designed to reduce energy use when demand for electricity is highest. It rewards Pepco Maryland customers by offering bill credits when Maryland customers reduce energy use at home during Peak Savings Days. Customers also can save through Energy Wise Rewards, a voluntary energy-reduction program that automatically reduces summer air conditioner energy. Lowering energy use also benefits the environment by conserving resources.
With the Peak Energy Savings Credit, Pepco Maryland customers who reduce energy use below their specified baseline during the specific hours of the Peak Savings Day can receive a credit of $1.25 off their bill for every kilowatt-hour (kWh) of reduced usage, through the Peak Energy Savings Credit program. For example, if a customer's baseline usage is 19 kWh and they reduce usage to 12 kWh, the customer receives a credit of $8.75. The baseline is an average of a customer's three days with the highest energy use during the prior 30-day period. This excludes the day prior to a Peak Savings Day, previous Peak Savings Days, weekends and holidays.
Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary program that offers customers a choice of a programmable thermostat or an outdoor cycling switch, which the utility installs at no charge to the customer. During summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by cycling central air conditioner compressors off for short periods of time during periods of peak electricity use. Maryland and District of Columbia customers will receive a bill reduction in return for allowing Pepco to cycle their air conditioners a few days each year.
Customers can learn more about Energy Wise Rewards by calling 1-866-353-5798 or visiting pepco.com/rewards.
