Most outages expected to be restored tonight

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco crews are working around the clock to restore power to customers who lost service during this winter storm. The vast majority of customers are expected to have service restored by later tonight. New outages also are occurring through the day, however, as weakened trees and limbs are causing additional interruptions.

Pepco has restored power for about 50,000 customers in the past 24 hours. Looking ahead, we also will continue to carefully monitor Tuesday's forecast of inclement weather.

Snow, sleet and freezing rain have been the primary causes of today's outages. Wintry precipitation can weigh down tree limbs and bring them into contact with power lines to cause outages. Trees - especially evergreens and others already weakened by previous storms - also have fallen onto power lines and equipment. Drivers skidding into utility poles along wet and/or icy roads also can cause service interruptions.

"We are out in our communities restoring power as quickly and safely as possible," said Donna M. Cooper, president, Pepco Region. "Safety is our No. 1 priority, and we urge our customers to stay away from downed wires and avoid working crews. Customers should assume that all wires are energized."

Customers are asked to report any downed wires and outages by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662). It is important that customers report their outages and request a call back to verify their power has been restored. Outages also may be reported through pepco.com or through our mobile app, available for download at pepco.com/mobileapp.
