WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco is proud to partner with Casey Trees to implement our Right Tree, Right Place program. Through this program, Pepco will support Mayor Vincent Gray's pledge to increase the tree canopy in the District of Columbia from 35 percent to 40 percent by 2032.

"We are committed to protecting the environment and advocate strategic tree planting to reduce stormwater runoff, prevent erosion, absorb pollution and provide shade to customers in the District of Columbia," said Donna Cooper, president, Pepco Region. "In addition, we support planting the right tree in the right place to increase energy conservation and prevent future tree-wire problems."

Casey Trees is a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit, established in 2002, committed to restoring, enhancing and protecting the tree canopy of the nation's capital.

Pepco's partnership with Casey Trees involves planting trees only on private residential property located in the District, and each household is allowed only two trees. It is not too early to start planning for a March or April planting; Casey Trees plants most of its trees between October and April.

Customers can request a tree planting by following these steps:

• Submit a request. You can submit a request online at http://www.pepco.com/energy/environment/planting/treerequest/
• Schedule a home consultation. Casey Trees will arrange a time to visit your home to help you determine the most appropriate tree(s) and location(s).
• Pay your co-pay. The $50 per tree co-pay includes the consultation, tree and planting. Payment for each tree must be received prior to scheduling a tree planting. You may pay by check during your home consultation or securely online.
• Await your planting date. Once your tree species and locations have been chosen, a planting date will be scheduled for the spring or fall. You do not need to be present for the planting.

Pepco reminds our customers these quick facts for public safety and health of the trees:

• Keeping branches and trees away from wires will help to keep your power on and your family safe.
• By planting the right tree in the right place, you can help prevent future tree-wire problems.
• When trying to decide what type of tree to plant and where to plant it, consider the location of overhead utility lines.
• Our tree pruning program complies with standards of American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Best Management Practices (BMP's) of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).
