White House Energy Datapalooza Highlights Industry Innovation

Washington, D.C. - Pepco joined federal government agencies and energy industry partners at the White House-sponsored Energy Datapalooza at the Ronald Reagan Building today. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz, U.S. Chief Technology Officer Todd Park, and GSA Administrator Dan Tangherlini spoke on innovation in the electric industry and federal leadership on promoting energy management and energy efficiency.

Green Button is an industry initiative that stemmed from a White House call to action to provide customers with easy access to their energy usage data in a user-friendly format. This is one example of the results of a presidential memorandum issued in 2013 to deploy energy management solutions.

"By leveraging freely available government data and tools, entrepreneurs and innovators are helping to build the clean energy economy," said Todd Park, U.S. Chief Technology Officer and Assistant to the President. "Innovations like those featured today at the Energy Datapalooza can help Americans conserve energy, save money, and advance a safer and cleaner future."

Pepco — collaborating with Schneider Electric, New City Energy, GSA energy managers and the DC Government — became the first utility in the country to initiate and deploy a pilot of energy management for commercial customers using the Green Button Connect My Data standard.

"Our commitment to customers includes giving customers the data to control and make decisions about their energy use," said Karen Lefkowitz, Pepco Holdings Inc. vice president of business transformation. "We want to empower our customers to save energy and money."
