Washington, D.C. - For customers participating in Pepco's voluntary Energy Wise Rewards program, an additional test conservation period will be called Friday, May 30, from 9 to 10 a.m. in order to confirm system enhancements made following the May 28 equipment test. These tests will ensure equipment readiness prior to the peak summer season.
For those participating customers, Pepco will cycle off air conditioner compressors for short intervals during this time frame. Because the air conditioner fans will continue to run, however, most customers will not notice a temperature change in their homes. It may take up to half an hour after the test event ends for air conditioners to resume normal operations.
Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary program that offers customers a choice of a programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which the utility installs at no charge to the customer. During summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by cycling off central air conditioner compressors for short periods of time during periods of peak electricity use. Customers will receive bill reductions in return for allowing Pepco to cycle their air conditioners a few days each year.
Customers can learn more about Energy Wise Rewards by calling 1-866-353-5798 for Pepco or visiting www.pepco.com/rewards.
